National Private Pilots Licence (M)

The syllabus for the NPPL (M) requires a minimum of 25 hours flying instruction of which 15 hours must be dual and 10 hours are solo. The course will cover both general handling skills and navigation to include a short Solo Qualifying Cross-Country flight. There is only one Skills Test to be taken - the General Skills Test.

Ground School

You are required to demonstrate the aeronautical knowledge to pass the Microlight set of written exams including an oral technical exam during your GST. These subjects cover:

  • Aviation Law
  • Human Performance & Limitations
  • Navigation
  • Aircraft General
  • Aircraft Specific (Oral as part of GST)

Although not an official requirement for licence issue, due to the location of our operating base within Controlled Airspace, we require our students to complete and pass the Radio Telephony Practical and Written Exams during the flying training to allow the use of the aircrafts radio equipment. Something which in reality you will need when using your licence to visit both large and small airports around the country!

All tests and exams are conducted in-house

Medical Requirements

The medical requirements are for a certificate of fitness from your GP, equivalent to the DVLA Group 2 professional driving medical standard.

Booking Lessons

Each lesson is given a two hour booking, allowing time for your flight briefing with your instructor before the flight and a debriefing after you return where your instructor will assess your progress, making your training as efficient as possible.

Once you have passed

Having gained your NPPL (M), you are free to fly any 3-Axis Microlight aircraft or Flexwing (with appropriate differences training) both here in the UK and abroad during daylight visual conditions. To renew you licence you need to carry out 5hrs flying every 13 months, verified and signed off by an examiner.

Looking to expand your horizons?

The NPPL (M) can be used to upgrade to the NPPL (SEP) by completing a further 7hrs flying towards the NPPL (SEP) in a Single Engine Piston aircraft plus a few other minor requirements including the NPPL (SEP) skills tests. This is a great way to further your flying whilst keeping a watch on the budget! Contact us for more in-depth details.
